Peterborough are holding out for a fee in the region of £10m for Ivan Toney according to a report in their local paper, The Peterborough Telegraph.

Barry Fry told the Daily Mail that a bid from Celtic last Friday had been rejected with the League One outfit holding out for double the reported bid of £5m.

There are various ways to structure a transfer through add-ons such as appearances, goals or lifting trophies while most clubs will look for a 10% sell on clause to ensure that they don’t get their fingers burnt.

Celtic have also been linked with Albian Ajeti of West Ham and Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson but if The Peterborough Telegraph figures are to be believed it is unlikely that Toney will be joining the hoops:

Posh are expecting to sell the 24 year-old before the start of the new League One season starts on September 12, but they are determined to hold out for a fee in the region of £10 million.

The Scottish press are reporting today (July 29) that Celtic have had a £5 million offer rejected for a player who scored 26 goals in a shortened 2019-20 campaign.

The Peterborough Telegraph has previously reported interest in Toney from Celtic and their Scottish Premier League rivals Rangers, but it’s felt unlikely either would match the Posh valuation.

And last night MacAnthony echoed public comments previously made by Posh director of football Barry Fry by commenting on Celtic’s alleged bid: “Don’t believe figures quoted for any player. We would keep Ivan Toney rather than sell him for this. Cheers.”

Toney is out of contract next summer, with his age he will be able to move elsewhere for free, from January he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of England.

Vasilios Barkas is in Glasgow to complete his move from AEK Athens will another striker appearing to be the priority for Neil Lennon.
