SPFL make drastic reduction to the number of match reporters

Just 15 journalists will be allowed in to cover the opening SPFL Premiership matches.

With rights holders such as Sky Sports and BBC Scotland paying for access to players and managers as well as in-house club media there isn’t likely to be much room when the action kicks off this weekend.

A standard SPFL fixture at Celtic Park would normally attract around 50 reporters split among broadcast and print even though print is becoming much more digital with little difference between Dailies and Sundays.

With such restricted numbers most publishers will have to follow the action on television and take after match quotes from broadcasters and club media.

Restricting the numbers seems unnecessary, with no fans present reports can easily be socially distanced without any problems arising.

Clubs can host post-match zoom conferences but this latest move increasingly marginalises the traditional publishers with more and more focus on social media and content produced by fans.
