Celtic have been linked with an interest in Haris Belkebla but the report from French publisher Le Buteur seems fairly hazy.

On Tuesday Norwegian site VG was on the money over Moi Elyounoussi but the link with midfielder Belkebla, a 26-year-old Algerian covers a lot of ground including the now almost compulsory claim of competition from Ibrox for the player.

These days it is very rare for the two Glasgow clubs to be in contention for the same player, if it was the case the decision would be fairly clear cut in Celtic’s favour for 99% of players.

Belkebla appears to be in some sort of contract dispute with Brest with the usual scenario of interest from various clubs, including Lens being used to ensure a better deal for the player and his agent.

Le Buteur (Striker) reports:

We learn from reliable sources, the Algerian Haris Belkebla has been in high demand in recent days. Contacted by the Glasgow Rangers, the former Valenciennes FC player is faced with a release problem that his leaders in Brest refuse to discuss. Belkebla received another solicitation from the rival Glasgow club, namely Glasgow Celtic. This course offers an offer deemed interesting which could well change the minds of Breton managers. The Algerian is willing to try the adventure, but his sports director has told him that the management of Brest does not want to hear about his transfer. In other words Brest, which hopes to confirm its continuation in Ligue 1, has made Belkebla one of its essential elements in anticipation of next season.

Brest finished in 14th place in the French League which was brought to an end in March with Belkebla, apparently a holding midfielder playing in 23 of their 28 matches without scoring a goal.

Midfield doesn’t seem to be an area of the park that Celtic are short on but the success of Moussa Dembele, Olivier Ntcham, Odsonne Edouard and Chris Jullien ensures that they will continue to look towards France for players.

Belkebla is under contract until 2022, according to Transfermarkt he doesn’t have an agent.
