Steve Davis believes the hype that Alfredo Morelos is one of the most wanted strikers in world football.

Over the last fortnight Napoli, Lazio and Everton have been linked with the chunky Ibrox ace without any bids making their way to Steven Gerrard.

This is the fifth successive transfer window fuelled by speculation over Morelos, kicking off in January 2018 with the far-fetched yarn about interest from China.

A club in Qatar were reported to be interested in the former HJK Helsinki starlet last month  but following a well worn path nothing concrete emerged as the trail moved on to Italy.

Discussing Morelos, Davis told The Sun:

Of course we want him to stay. As a squad, we want him here. Look at the number of goals he has scored over the past couple of seasons. Even in my time here, his all-round game has improved ten-fold.

He still has a lot of potential to improve even further. Scoring that number of goals, the performances he has put in during the European games especially, there are going to be clubs looking at him.

Morelos will go head-to-head with Moussa Dembele tonight in a friendly against Lyon with many Ibrox fans convinced that the two strikers are comparable.

In three years at Ibrox Morelos has failed to score against Celtic, Dembele scored five times- at Celtic Park, Hampden and Ibrox in his first three Glasgow derbies.
