Wouter Vrancken can’t believe that he’s been able to bring Marian Shved on loan to Mechelen.

The winger made three brief substitute appearances last season but never looked like he was making any progress at Celtic.

His transfer from Karpaty Lviv will officially go down as Brendan Rodgers’ last signing but the former Celtic boss made it clear that he had little involvement in the transfer.

After being fully involved in the pre-season matches in Austria and Switzerland he dropped out of picture despite scoring on his debut after coming on as a substitute away to Nomme Kalju.

After studying his You Tube videos Celtic fans were puzzled by his lack of progress with Vracken telling The Sun about his delight at getting to work with the Ukrainian winger:

Let’s be honest here, Marian Shved is an outstanding talent who would not normally choose to play for a club like Mechelen but because he hardly played at all last season, he wants to relaunch his career with us. He will bring us a real injection of quality to this club.

He’s a shy guy and we are going to have to take him under our wing a bit, but he will soon get to know his new team mates.

He will need time though because he’s barely played at all last season and was training on his own but I can immediately see that the boy can play, he can speed up play when needed or hold onto the ball. He’s an excellent addition to the squad and we are lucky to have him.

Mechelen have picked up four points from their first two league matches, Shved is under contract with Celtic until June 2023.
