Robbie Deas has joined Inverness Caley Thistle on a three-year contract from Celtic.

The defender had 12 months left to run on his Celtic deal with yesterday’s transfer likely to involve a substantial sell-on clause if he moves on elsewhere.

Last season Deas made 24 appearances in the Championship on loan at Alloa to build on the experiences he had picked up the previous season on loan at League Two Cowdenbeath.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Celtic and the Scotland youth set up where he was a fixture in defence alongside Stephen Welsh and Daniel Church.

Finding the right platform to develop Academy players through to the professional game has become more and more difficult with the virtual collapse of meaningful matches below first team level.

The hihlight of his Celtic career would be a spectacular extra-time volleyed winner in the final of the 2019 Glasgow Cup Final.

At Inverness Deas will find two former Celts in Lewis Toshney and James Keatings, in January former Celt Jamie McCart stepped up from Inverness to move to St Johnstone.
