Neil Lennon described Odsonne Edouard as pivotal when he was asked about the striker’s importance to Celtic.

The French u-21 striker scored a hat-trick within an hour of the 5-1 opening day win over Hamilton as the champions picked up where they signed off when the 2019/20 season was brought to a halt.

Starting his fourth season at Celtic, one while on loan, Edouard has now been at the club longer that Moussa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk.

One more season leading the line would go a long way towards delivering an unprecedented 10th successive title with Lennon in no doubt about the importance of the young striker.

It’s pivotal that we hold on to him, we don’t want him to go anywhere. It’s a brilliant start to the season for him, that’s what has pleased me, his goal return.

As well as all of the other good things that e brings to the game he is scoring a lot of goals now and it’s fantastic to see. But I’m sure that he’ll be the first one to say that it was a real team effort today.

Jeremie Frimpong and Patryk Klimala were the other scorers but when he wasn’t scoring Edouard was threading things together, the focal point to all of Celtic’s efforts.

This year the transfer window runs until October 5- if Edouard is still at Celtic on October 6 every single fan will be delighted and convinced that history beckons in May.
