Many Celtic fans were unimpressed by the club’s statement on Boli Bolingoli.
The promise of ‘immediate action through our own disciplinary procedures’ was hardly inspiring since the club’s internal processes failed to pick up on the player taking a short break in Spain in-between being named as a substitute against Hamilton and Kilmarnock.
Across social media there was next to no sympathy for Bolingoli. The scale of his action is proving hard for supporters to comprehend.
A trip to Spain requires considerable planning, it isn’t a spur of the moment decision. The former Rapid Vienna defender booked flights and travelled through airports four times, presumably filling in documentation that made it clear that returning from Spain required 14 days of self isolation.
For months millions of people across Scotland have had their life put on hold. Most of the old normals have been abandoned.
Fans can’t go to Spain without having to self-isolate, birthdays and religious events have been missed, weddings cancelled, funerals have passed by.
Record numbers of Celtic supporters have bought Season Tickets with no realistic idea of when they will be able to attend a football match again.
After seeing the team back playing again a step towards normality was resumed. The actions of Bolingoli are a massive step backwards with the reaction of the club a huge underestimation of the feelings of supporters.
When the club asks the fans rarely let them down whatever the cause. By referring to internal disciplinary matters the club has badly let down many supporters, driving a wedge deeper through #thecelticfamily.
The club statement made no reference of an investigation into Leigh Griffiths confirmed by Neil Lennon on Sunday.
Sack the clown right now

I think he needs to be fired as a strong statement to the nation and to show the Tories the right way to deal with Covid floaters putting all of you and us at risk-zero tolerance

He really has no excuse. His contract has to be ripped up. Feel sick to the stomach that his actions could have ended the season before it’s really got started!!!!

He’s got to go, massively disrespectful to Celtic, Scottish football, communities who have borne the brunt & immense hardship of lockdown restrictions & those who have become ill & died.

Gross misconduct get him out the club, if this was any other employee out with the playing staff, their feet wouldn’t touch the ground. rip up the contract and bid him farewell .

Good chance to get rid, not Celtic class. Furthermore, he has a blatant disregard for the rules as well as the health and safety of everyone else.
No room for passengers.

Regardless of his apology, this is the action of a player, knowing he’s not getting a game, giving the club a big “FY”. He knew what he was doing, the risks involved and did it anyway. As did LG. Celtic need to shoulder the responsibility and act accordingly.
