Celtic are reported to have resumed their interest in Niclas Eliasson.

The Bristol City man is more known as a left winger than a wing back but it seems clear that that area of the park is Celtic’s transfer priority.

Eliasson was born in Sweden to a Brazilian mother and spent parts of his childhood in the South American country before turning professional with Falkenburg. In 2013 he spent a week on trial with Celtic but no offer was made at that time.

Bristol City paid Norrkopping £1.8m to take him to the English Championship, last season despite speculation about his future he played in 27 matches, scoring three times and contributing 12 assists.

The Sun reports:

NEIL LENNON is plotting a move for Bristol City wing back Niclas Eliasson — if a third bid for Alfie Doughty fails.

The Celtic boss is anxious to strengthen his left-sided options before next Monday’s transfer deadline.

His first choice is Doughty, but Charlton have knocked back two bids for the 20-year-old. Swede Eliasson is a free agent next summer, and was first eyed by Celts at the start of the year.

The 24-year-old has fallen out of favour at City since boss Lee Johnson was sacked last July. Eliasson was watched by Hoops head of recruitment Gary Penrice in last week’s 3-0 EFL Cup home defeat to Aston Villa.

Celtic have also been linked with Aarhus left back Casper Hojer, as Lennon and head of football operations Nick Hammond ensure they are aware of options to strengthen the squad.

Doughty seems to be Celtic’s signing priority but if a third bid is rejected it looks like they will have to move on to other targets.

The departures of Jonny Hayes and Boli Bolingoli has left Greg Taylor as the only left sided defender with a left wing-back the ideal option to allow Neil Lennon the option to play a 3-5-2 formation.
