Ian Maxwell has admitted that he has ‘had one of two calls from chief executives’ concerned about Scotland’s match with the Czech Republic tomorrow.

With four Celtic players included in Steve Clarke’s squad it is highly likely that Peter Lawwell will have been looking for assurances over his players.

What happened with the Czech squad on Friday remains something of a mystery with their game against Slovakia going ahead as planned.

After winning that match 3-1 the Twitter feed of the Czech FA announced that Monday’s game against Scotland wouldn’t go ahead- without contacting the SFA or UEFA.

The situation evolved through Saturday with UEFA announcing that the show must go on while the Czech FA claimed that they would have to select an entirely new squad and backroom team.

Picking up on his interview with BBC Sportsound, The Sun reports Maxwell saying:

Clubs are concerned. I’ve had one or two calls from chief executives asking for the update.

Dr John MacLean is heavily involved and we have medical staff who have club involvement. He will be speaking to his medical counterparts to reassure them.

Obviously clubs will be concerned, as we are. We want to make sure everyone is safe. Have clubs wanted to withdraw players? It’s not got to that territory, it’s about reassuring everyone.

The players that will be on the pitch will be tested, so it is similar to a European match. The health of the players takes precedence but under everything Uefa have asked us to do we are comfortable with it.

Scotland are due to fly out to the Czech Republic this afternoon but the situation is capable of changing. If the match goes ahead it has been suggested that the Czech’s may call up their u-21 squad.

Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Ryan Christie and Greg Taylor are in the Scotland squad.
