Celtic are reported to have turned to Diego Laxalt to solve their problem left-back issue.

Bringing in competition and back up to Greg Taylor has been Neil Lennon’s transfer priority ever since he brought in Shane Duffy to bolster his central defence.

The link with Laxalt emerged late on Sunday night from Gianluca Di Marzio who has over one million followers on Twitter and regular appearances on Sky Italia.

On his website, under the headline ‘Laxalt going to Celtic’, he reports:

Milan are ready to make changes to their defensive corps with the addition of a center back narrowed down to Kabak  or  Rudiger . Diego Laxalt is set to leave the club to make way for the new arrival, he is set to depart on loan to  Celtic. Milan had looked at several different situations for Laxalt to depart the club and the decision to let him join the Scottish club is ending up as the most concrete option in the final days of the window.

Laxalt, a 27-year-old Uruguayan, spent last season on loan at Torino where he made 16 appearances in Serie A.

After impressing at the 2018 World Cup Finals on the back of an impressive season at Genoa he moved to the San Siro in a 13m euro move.

With the transfer market depressed in Italy clubs are keen to reduce their wage bills with Di Marzio very confident that Laxalt is heading out on loan to AC Milan’s Europa League rivals.
