Paul Slane is predicting a dramatic Derby return for Leigh Griffiths on Saturday.

The striker came off the bench to rescue Celtic when they looked like dropping two points away to St Johnstone and is now pushing for his first start since scoring a hat-trick against St Mirren in March.

Who plays up front, whether he goes with one or two strikers up front is the biggest selection dilemma that Neil Lennon faces as he counts down to Saturday’s showdown.

Griffiths has been the only striker taking part in full training at Lennoxtown over the last 10 days with Slane hoping that last season’s partnership with Odsonne Edouard will be reunited.

After the winter break in Dubai Lennon switched his system to play with two up front with Celtic stretching their lead at the top of the table from two points to 13 when the season ended with a superior goal difference of 25.

And that front two, the Rangers back four will not deal with those two.

Edouard can’t leave France till Friday after returning a positive test but with five substitutes permitted and Patryk Klimala and Albian Ajeti likely to be available the Celtic boss is bound to be tempted to turn the clock back to February as his side look to go top of the table.
