Vasilis Barkas was left on the bench yesterday as Greece beat Moldova 2-0 in a Nations League tie in Athens.

The Celtic keeper had played in both of the previous Nations League matches and is expected to be back in action for Wednesday’s match at home to Kosovo.

Since making his Celtic debut away to Kilmarnock on August 9 Barkas has been the undisputed first choice with Scott Bain as his back up.

The former Dundee keeper famously made his Celtic debut at Ibrox in March 2018 but Neil Lennon will be hoping that his Greek goalie returns to Scotland safe and well to prepare for Saturday’s Glasgow derby.

Lennon won’t be able to call on Ryan Christie or Nir Bitton and is awaiting word on the likely availability of Odsonne Edouard and Hatem Abd Elhamed.

Bain has been training at Lennoxtown throughout the international break with the remainder of the Celtic squad.
