A report in The Athletic claims that Celtic turned down a firm offer from Germany for Odsonne Edouard.

Details are sketchy with no mention of the club or the offer which was apparently rejected without any follow up.

The timing of the report looks a little suspicious, coming out two days after a derby defeat with Celtic fans raw after a painful display from their favourites- with Edouard missing from the squad.

Throughout the transfer window there were claims about interest in the striker but with two years left on his contract the former Paris Saint Germain striker remains a Celtic player.

The Sun reports:

The Athletic’s David Ornstein claims the Hoops only received one official bid for their star man but it was well below their big valuation of the Frenchman and the Scottish champions were not prepared to do a deal.

The report doesn’t state exactly how much was on the table from the German side – but the offer was immediately booted out by Celtic and only tentative enquiries were made from other clubs. One of those teams was reportedly not Arsenal though, despite their interest in the 22-year-old.

Two weeks ago while reporting for international duty Edouard returned a positive test which resulted in him going into self-isolation.

On Friday he returned to Lennoxtown but wasn’t in contention for Saturday’s derby match and is rated doubtful for Thursday’s Europa League opener against AC Milan.
