Neil Lennon has accused the Scottish Government of double standards and throwing Celtic under a bus over the Boli Bolingoli incident.

In August the Belgian defender decided to take a trip to Spain between matches against Hamilton and Kilmarnock with Celtic feeling the full fury of the Edinburgh establishment.

Nicola Sturgeon and Jason Leitch turned their anger on the hoops forcing the SPFL to postpone two matches with no date yet arranged to face Aberdeen.

When Jordan Jones and George Edmundson broke protocols no sports journalists logged in to the First Minister’s media conference, Leitch and Sturgeon stayed on mute while a Hollyrood spokesperson commended the Ibrox club for their swift action.

Celtic and Aberdeen were fined by the SFA, tonight the SFA have charged Jones and Edmundson but brought no action against the Ibrox club.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon Lennon told the Daily Record:

I can’t comment on what the Rangers boys did. What I can comment on is the reaction from the government, which I find bewildering.

Considering the way they treated us after the Bolingoli incident. There seems to be double standards at the minute as far as we’re concerned.

You’d need to ask the government that. For the spokesperson, I found it strange to say the least. We as a club did and I’m sure our supporters did as well. I’m not happy about it. We were thrown under the bus.

We were subjected to privileged footballers, yellow card and blah, blah, blah. We have been treated in one way and other clubs have been treated another by the government and that’s unacceptable from our point of view.

These sort of issues should be dealt with by Peter Lawwell leaving Lennon to concentrate on playing matters ahead of a Europa League tie against Sparta Prague.
