Jackie McNamara has delivered a stinging criticism on Celtic’s signing policy.

Over the last 18 months there has been an increasing concentration on the English market with players coming in on loan.

Last season Fraser Forster was outstanding, Moi Elyounoussi looked devastating before injury while Moritz Bauer quickly fell by the wayside.

This season Elyounoussi is back, Shane Duffy and Diego Laxalt are in on loan with Albian Ajeti from West Ham the most expensive signing at a fee of around £5m.

Last season Ajeti and Duffy could barely get a game in the EPL but are now in the firing line among the highest paid players in the Celtic squad.

The likes of Duffy, he’s not been good enough for Brighton and they’ve wanted him out. Ajeti at West Ham, Elyounoussi at Southampton.

There’s three players who have not been deemed good enough at three teams in England. So, how are they good enough for Celtic at the moment? We need players who are on the way up. And if you’re going to change the manager, you’d want someone on the way up as well. New ideas, freshness

In previous seasons the French market had been kind to Celtic with Olivier Ntcham and Moussa Dembele coming via English sides and Odsonne Edouard direct from Paris Saint Germain.

Since signing Chris Jullien in the summer of 2019 the French market appears to have been overlooked with a major re-building job looking likely next summer.
