According to Phil MacGiollabhain, Dermot Desmond was in Glasgow for Celtic’s Europa League defeat from Sparta Prague.

There was no television coverage during the match of the Irish businessman who has the biggest individual shareholding in Celtic.

Desmond’s last major intervention at Celtic was to negotiate and recruit Brendan Rodgers after Peter Lawwell’s appointment of Ronny Deila flopped badly.

MacGiollabhain keeps a very close eye on Glasgow football matters, running a highly popular website with a Twitter following of 42,000.

After last night’s humiliation from Sparta Prague, MacGiollabhain reported:

As I have already reported after the Derby defeat, Neil had a rather uncomfortable on screen chat with the man who calls the shots at Celtic.

Mr Desmond does not like failure, and my information is that he was in Glasgow last night for the European match. What I have not reported until now is that I was late last week that possible replacements had been considered.

My information is that representatives of two managers currently based in England were contacted for exploratory talks in London.

Lennon reported having a constructive board meeting after the Europa League defeat from AC Milan a fortnight ago.

The draw away to Lille and win over Aberdeen last night looked like a corner had been turned but that was followed by last night’s display which was the worst of the season.

With one win in six matches Celtic travel to Motherwell on Sunday, after the international break they face away days against Hibs, Sparta Prague and AC Milan.
