Fresh from his stint on the bench watching Colombia getting hammered by Ecuador Alfredo Morelos is again the subject of transfer speculation. Again, it’s from the Daily Record.

January will mark the third anniversary of the mystery £8m bid from a mystery club in China with still no real sign of interest in the former HJK Helsinki starlet.

Six transfer windows have come and gone surrounded by the usual hype and speculation with the inevitable outcome of Morelos squeezing into a blue shirt when the window slams shut.

Showing incredible gymnastics and understanding of internal politics at Lille, digital star Jonny McFarlane tells Record readers:

Luis Campos has won his boardroom battle at Lille – a move that may result in a rekindled bid for Alfredo Morelos in January or beyond. It had been reported that Campos was set to leave the club after a bitter internal power struggle, a move that would leave their interest in limbo.

He has been embroiled in a battle for control of football affairs with the club’s director general Marc Ingla but it has now emerged that his rival will be the one to leave. President Gerard Lopez has accepted Ingla’s resignation in a move that makes the former Monaco star-spotter much more likely to remain in post.

The Portuguese is one of Europe’s highest rated talent scouts and was the driving force behind the French club’s summer move for the Rangers striker. A £16.5m bid was rejected by the Ibrox club despite personal terms having already been agreed between the striker and the Ligue 1 club.

In one of the most bizarre interviews of the year the Lille President joined Jim White on TalkSPORT in August and admitted a bid was made for Morelos. No fee was given during the interview.

Having scored in two SPFL Premiership matches in 2020 it’s highly unlikely that Morelos will be on his way to Lille in January.
