One phrase from Neil Lennon at today’s media conference pushed Celtic fan’s over the edge- ‘for the sake of it’.
The current Celtic boss used the phrase while discussing the prospect of being sacked by the club.
Being sacked for winning two matches out of 10 isn’t a case of being sacked ‘for the sake of it’. Jimmy McGrory was the last Celtic manager to survive four home defeats in succession. John Barnes, Ronny Deila and Tony Mowbray all failed badly at Celtic but none of them returned four successive home defeats.
Over the last month a vocal minority appears to have developed into an overwhelming majority that have lost trust in Lennon. They want him removed with Peter Lawwell going too in an clean sweep.
After Zoom calls on Friday and Monday which amounted to ‘votes of confidence’ in Lennon it appears that the concerns of the fans have got through to some board members.
Rather than ‘for the sake of it’ as a reason for sacking the manager it seems that the CEO’s inability to identify a replacement is the reason for giving Lennon a stay of execution.
Neil Lennon says he’s “very grateful” for the Celtic board’s backing.
“They’re not a board who just sack managers for the sake of it”
He remains confident both he & the players can turn things around.

Asked if he thought it was over for him at Celtic last weekend, Lennon said: “Not in my heart of hearts but I could understand if that would have been the case, yes.”

… it’s not for the sake of it though?

So same board, same manager, same coaching staff & same players who we have been getting dreadful & embarrassing results from without any change apart from a few zoom calls tells me everything I need to no ????

Thing will only get worse we will get shafted tomorrow and on Sunday sorry to say the players weren’t playing for Lennon months ago there not going to start playing for him now if Lennon was a Celtic man he would have resigned

“For the sake of it” eh? There’s a very valid reason for sacking him and if Neil can’t see it, we’ve got bigger problems than I thought.

For the sake of it ??????? 2 wins in 10, lost 4 in a row AT HOME! 52% win ratio, conceded more goals this season than the whole of last season and it’s not even halfway through and it’s “just for the sake of it”

It’s not for the sake of it though is it. Tomorrow night he will be 2 wins in 11 games, out 3 tournaments and 11 points behind in the league, he’s spent millions in the window and he’s tried every formation and first 11 possible and he can’t find a winning formula anymore.

He’s been a disaster this season, sacking wouldn’t be for the sake of it, Just go we man ?
