Nottingham Forest are reported to be keen to sign Shane Duffy on loan.

The defender joined Celtic in September but the move hasn’t worked well for the player or club with Celtic’s title hopes in tatters.

Duffy has been in and out of the side with Celtic chopping and changing their defence with the on loan defender failing to make the expected impression.

Former Brighton boss Chris Hughton took charge of Forest outside of the transfer window and is looking to bring in reinforcements with Duffy a trusted warrior from their days on the south coast.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC have been given a chance to cut their losses on Shane Duffy by Nottingham Forest. The Irish stopper’s old Brighton boss Chris Hughton wants him at the City Ground this month.  SunSport understands Forest have now made an approach to the English Premier League club about Duffy.

Most loan deals have an option to break them during the transfer window with Celtic unlikely to be determined to keep hold of Duffy.

Chris Jullien’s injury has complicated matters with a new signing likely before they can afford to return Duffy to Brighton and on to Nottingham Forest.

Kris Ajer is Celtic’s first choice central defender but after that they only have the inexperienced Stephen Welsh followed by Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed to play out of position as central defenders.
