John Hartson has told any Celtic fans hanging onto the mathematically/arithmetically impossible line that they are deranged.

The former striker has watched a potentially historic season unravel barely beyond the halfway stage with no one inside his old club appearing to read the signs.

From November onwards Neil Lennon was in denial about the problems the team was facing while Peter Lawwell and the hierarchy put their faith on things sorting themselves out without intervention.

The implosion has been horrendous, the credibility and legacy of Lawwell and Lennon has been utterly trashed with Hartson spelling out exactly where the state of play lies.

Picking up on his Celtic Exchange podcast, the Daily Record reports:

Listen, it’s gone now. The league is gone and I think anybody who says that it’s not… I think they’re a bit deranged. As you can see Rangers have lost no games all season, if anything Celtic have to be careful they don’t lose the league before the split.

In terms of how Rangers are going they’ll probably go to Motherwell and win. The chance was to come back from Dubai, win-win-win, and hopefully Rangers slip up. It hasn’t quite happened like that. For me the league was gone anyway when we lost at Ibrox and we went 19 points behind.

Neil Lennon, John Kennedy and the 13 players that were self isolating can return to training today with only a possible fifth Scottish Cup win on offer to salvage something from the season.

Even that prospect could be removed with the two lower divisions of the SPFL suspended leaving Celtic with a free weekend on Saturday as they await the winners of Arbroath v Falkirk.
