Jason Leitch has warned Scottish football that the current season may not be completed.

On Monday all football below the SPFL Premiership and Championship was suspended for three weeks but the words of Professor Leitch confirm suspicions that the lower leagues look unlikely to resume.

With regular testing in place and lucrative broadcasting deals the top two divisions are continuing as normal but the Scottish Cup is on hold with most of the Second Round ties still to be completed.

Last season the top flight was suspended on March 13 but several weeks later it was called on a basis of Points Per Game. In the Premiership 10 of the 12 clubs had played 30 of their 38 fixtures with the other two clubs a fixture short.

If football is suspended the SPFL will face similar issues to last season when some clubs argued and ended up taking Legal Action to try and reverse a vote which resulted in the relegation of Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer.

So far this season Celtic have played 20 of their 38 fixtures with no club playing more than 23 matches.

With the European Championships scheduled for June the season is unlikely to be extended leaving the SPFL to decided on Null & Void or PPG.

Professional sport has privileges, all over the UK, special privileges that other people don’t have. They are at work, they are training, they are being paid and they are getting to do what they love. That’s not true of all of us.
