The Athletic has claimed that ‘at least four’ Ibrox players are being investigated after the club issued a holding statement last night before Police Scotland confirmed that 10 Fixed Penalties were issued after they were called to an incident in Glasgow’s West End in the early hours of Administration Day.

Claims about the incident were rife on Social Media throughout Sunday forcing the club to come out with the old ‘internal investigation’ claim around 8pm which would have been forced by media requests.

Most publishers were happy to make the ‘internal investigation’ lead the way as a story without any further digging although a clue was given when Sky Sports among others carried news of Police Scotland issuing Fixed Penalties.

The Athletic, an online publisher based on subscriptions, went further with some detail with two players mentioned in their report. On Saturday their Ibrox correspondent was refused media access to the Kilmarnock match due to the press area being over subscribed.

Across the traditional media this morning there is no greater detail published with the focus switching to see what reaction, if any there is from the Scottish Government.

In a complete coincidence all football below the top two divisions was closed down on the same day the First Minister was critical of Celtic’s trip to Dubai which had been sanctioned by the Scottish Government and football authorities.

In November an un-named Holyrood spokesperson praised the Ibrox club when Jordan Jones and George Edmondson were caught and fined by Police Scotland for attending a house party.

It now appears that Ibrox players have again been ignoring the laws of the last with Scotland six weeks into a full Lockdown with Quarantine Hotels introduced at 4am for international travellers.

Social media has shown a variety of pictures from the weekend parties with the authorities likely to be weighing up their response knowing that further and more damaging news could emerge at any stage.
