A report from Italy claims that a permanent move to Celtic for Diego Laxalt is in great doubt. That could be an understatement!

Since the turn of the year the on loan AC Milan defender has been replaced by Greg Taylor at left-back although he did make an early appearance at Ross County last week with tragic results over the only goal of the game.

Celtic signed Laxalt towards the end of the summer transfer window in October to give them the option to return to the 3-5-2 formation that served them so well last season.

After making his debut in the October Glasgow Derby defeat things rapidly went downhill for the player and Celtic.

Loan deals are wide open to speculation regarding a loan fee, proportion of wages paid and a buy out class with Calcio Mercato picking up on the latest:

THE THREE RETURN EXUBERS – An intelligent and valid programming, which starts from the desire to focus on talented young people and try to place the so-called redundancies, looking for a new chance for them in other places. The common destiny happened to Mattia Caldara, Andrea Conti and Diego Laxalt, players who failed, for one reason or another, between injuries and subdued tests , to prove what they were worth in Milan: the central defender returned to Atalanta last winter , the right-back moved to Parma in the last transfer market in January and the left-back went to Scotland, at Celtic Glasgow , last summer.

LAXALT’S SITUATION (9 MILLION EURO) – None of the three is sure to remain in the current team in the summer, on the contrary: as regards the former Genoa, the Scots would like to find an agreement with Milan to confirm it ,evaluation made by the Rossoneri last October. In addition, the certain change of technical guide and coach, after a deeply disappointing season, puts the redemption in great doubt, despite a very positive start of the Uruguayan, who seemed to have convinced Celtic.

Should Celtic sign Diego Laxalt on a permanent transfer deal?

Yes, he is a class act. What we need

No thanks, avoid

With a change of coach, Chief Executive and the likely appointment of a Director of Football the landscape will be much changed this summer when Celtic consider their Recruitment options.

Laxalt has a year to run on his Serie A style contract, there seems to be very little chance of Celtic matching those terms with little in his appearances to date suggesting that he capable of making a positive contribution to the side.

Celtic also have loan deals on Jonjoe Kenny, Shane Duffy and Moi Elyounoussi. Boli Bolingoli remains a Celtic player under contract until June 2023.
