John Kennedy is set to replace Neil Lennon as Celtic manager on Wednesday.

It seems that the 1-0 defeat away to Ross County on Sunday was the final Mowbray moment forcing the Celtic board into action.

Lennon has presided over a disastrous season that has left Celtic trailing by 18 points in the SPFL with the prospect of playing host to a title party next month. The hoops were also knocked out of three cup competitions before the end of November.

Tonight The Sun reports:

NEIL LENNON is set to leave Celtic in the next 24 hours.

SunSport understands the Hoops board have been in crisis talks since Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Ross County. Lennon’s second spell as Celtic boss is expected to end imminently – with No2 John Kennedy put in interim charge.

Celtic’s horror season went from bad to worse in Dingwall – leaving them 18 points behind Rangers. Lennon is now set to depart the club he has served as player, coach and manager for the best part of two decades.

David Friel, who wrote the piece, is a former Celtic View reporter.

Lennon was given the job on a permanent basis in May 2019 after initially coming in as a caretaker following the sudden departure of Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City.

Being knocked out of the Champions League to Cluj was a big set-back but after winning at Ibrox in September 2019 Lennon steadied the ship, won a Europa League group and lifted the Betfred Cup at Hampden.

The hoops stormed to last season’s title with a 13 point lead when the season was halted but this season has been a complete turnaround.

Sunday’s defeat to Ross County, for the second time this season looks to have been the final straw for Lennon who typically absolved himself from any blame for the result, smirking at the start of his interview with Sky Sports.
