Scott Brown is reported to be facing a retrospective SFA suspension for an incident during Celtic’s 4-0 win at Kilmarnock.

During the first half of the match Aaron Tishbola was seen wheeling away holding his face after running towards the Celtic skipper.

Earlier in the day Steven Gerrard had appealed for consistency from the SFA after accepting a suspension for Alfredo Morelos for the second time in two months.

Kevin Clancy refereed both matches with the spotlight now on the SFA to see if Brown is charged and offered another suspension.

Publishing at 12.30 today Keith Jackson reveals:

Celtic skipper Scott Brown will discover on Thursday if he is to face retrospective punishment for a clash with Kilmarnock’s Aaron Tshibola on Tuesday night.

Record Sport understands a three man panel of former grade one referees will study TV footage of the flashpoint which was captured on camera during Celtic ‘s 4-0 romp at Rugby Park.

Brown appeared to catch Tshibola on the chin with an elbow but, as the incident was not spotted by match official Kevin Clancy, it will now be referred to the same disciplinary procedure which hammered Rangers strikers Alfredo Morelos with a three game ban last week after the Colombian stamped on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard admitted that he could not defend Morelos for the incident but stressed on Tuesday that he wants the SFA top brass to apply greater levels of ‘consistency’ when dealing with disciplinary reviews.

It is unclear what process is followed for incidents to be referred to the panel of three former referees.

When Morelos stamped on the heel of Jeremie Frimpong in the opening minutes of the January 2 derby match no further action was taken. Similarly when Devante Cole stamped on the thigh of Frimpong when Celtic faced Motherwell in November the SFA were satisfied with the yellow card issued by Andrew Dallas.

In May 2019 Celtic stated that it was embarassing for Scottish football when the SFA upheld an appeal from Jon Flanagan after a yellow card for elbowing Scott Brown had been upgraded to red. Clancy refereed that match, saw the elbow on Brown and awarded a yellow card.
