Andre Villas Boas has announced his resignation from Marseille in the middle of a media conference following the signing of Olivier Ntcham on loan from Celtic.

Late on Deadline Day it was announced that the midfielder was joining the French side on loan with a permanent deal in the pipeline if certain criteria are met.

Clearly the team selections will have a bearing on that but with other things going on around the club the former Chelsea and Spurs boss decided to resign.

At the weekend the Marseille v Rennes match was postponed by the French Leagur after Marseilles fans had attacked their own club’s training ground.

Celtic also had an offer from Newcastle for Ntcham but it seems that the players preference was to return to France.

Whoever was involved in the deal from Celtic clearly seemed to discount the opinion of the manager. Ntcham will now need to stick it out at Marseille or return to Celtic to train but being unable to play.

The midfielder is under contract with Celtic until June 2022.
