Brighton have made an approach to Celtic about taking Vincent Angelini to the south coast for a training stint.

With Manchester United and AC Milan also reported to be interested in the teenager goalkeeper there shouldn’t be much doubt about his ability that requires further inspection.

The complete lack of fixtures below first-team level has robbed Angelini of a year of playing time but with only a development fee involved Brighton have an almost risk free option in front of them.

The Daily Record reports:

Brighton want to give Celtic youngster Vincent Angelini the chance to win a move to the English Premier League. The 17-year-old is wanted by the Seagulls and has been invited to train with them.

Brighton are waiting to see if Celtic will give them the green light. The English side want to see him training with their own development squad before they agree a fee.

Angelini is out of contract at the end of May, about 10 weeks.

The loss of another player at virtually the first opportunity highlights a growing concern for whoever is coming in as Celtic’s Director of Football.

With no Reserve League or equivalent in place there are very limited opportunities for young players to develop towards the first team with two goalkeepers at Celtic providing contrasting experiences.

After two seasons playing almost every game for Ayr United, Ross Doohan went on loan to Ross County at the start of the season, played five matches then lost his place in their Betfred Cup tie against Celtic and never played before returning to Celtic following the Dubai trip and 13 players having to self-isolate. Doohan turns 23 next week.

Conor Hazard was 22 at the start of this season with less than 40 loan appearances to his name at Partick Thistle, Falkirk and Dundee. Suddenly in December he got his Celtic chance in a Europa League tie, held his place for the Scottish Cup Final against Hearts then varied between first to third choice before recently signing a two year extension to his Celtic stay.
