There was one crumb of comfort for Celtic fans to take from yesterday’s Derby draw- there will be no whitewash this season, preserving the record of Martin O’Neill’s squad of season 2003/04.

Typical of his not so modest self Chris Sutton isn’t slow to remind fans of his starring role in that whitewash, clinched with a brilliant last gasp chip over Stefan Klos.

Alex McLeish’s side were closing in on a moral victory in the final derby of the season having already lost three times in the SPL and also in the Scottish Cup to Celtic.

A typical anti-football performance kept the scoreline blank when David Marshall launched a long, hopeful clearance into the Rangers half.

Sutton got his head to Marshall’s clearance, and finished it off with an assist from his Swedish side-kick.

Other than Larsson’s chip in the 6-2 massacre of August 2000 it is probably the most famous Derby goal of this century.

With Celtic taking a point yesterday Sutton’s place in the record books is secured for a while yet, hopefully at some future date another Celtic side will enjoy a clean sweep of Derby results.
