Alan Nixon of The Sun has linked Roy Keane with the manager’s job at Celtic- two months after revealing that the Irishman wanted back into football.

Keane hasn’t managed a team since leaving Ipswich in January 2011 after an undistinguished period in the Championship.

Since then he has had three stints as an assistant to Paul Lambert and Martin O’Neill whose Celtic links don’t need commented on.

Keane has become the must-watch pundit on Sky Sports with his old-school views slaughtering various personalities in the English game while others tread on egg-shells.

How that image translates into being in charge of a squad of players needing to get results twice a week is open for debate with no English club prepared to take on that risk.

Writing in The Sun this morning Nixon claims:

ROY KEANE wants to become Celtic manager and make a sensational box-office return to Scottish football.

SunSport can reveal the legendary Manchester United and Republic of Ireland idol would consider an offer to replace Neil Lennon.

Crucially there is no mention of Celtic making contact with their former midfielder. In the three weeks since Neil Lennon resigned there has been nothing official from the club about their recruitment process with Keane a phone call away and un-connected to any club.

Back on January 10, with Celtic just back from Dubai, Nixon reported in The Sun:

ROY KEANE wants a managerial comeback — despite his success as a TV pundit. The fiery Irishman, formerly of Celtic, has told pals he is itching to be a boss again and get the day-to-day involvement at a club that he is missing.

Partick Thistle fan Nixon is based in the north-west of England with strong contacts throughout the game covering owners, managers and agents.

Only Dermot Desmond will have a definite idea of what direction Celtic are looking in for a manager with a new CEO arriving on July 1 and a Director of Football also likely to be brought in.
