Trevor Sinclair put TalkSPORT listeners right this morning when he reminded them of the death of the Old Firm in 2012.
It was a troubling time for host Jim White who has been at the front of the survival lie trying to put liquidation down as a minor financial hiccup.
With Ally McCoist, David Tanner and Adrian Durham on the airwaves TalkSPORT listeners are given the sugar coated version of the Glasgow Derby. The one that avoids mention of 276 creditors left high and dry, and unpaid, when the club went into liquidation in 2012.
Top of that list was Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs followed by a number of public bodies including councils, police and ambulance services. Florists, newsagents, taxi firms and face painters also went unpaid.
A secretive Five Way Agreement was signed in July 2012 to fast track the new club formed by Charles Green in to the third tier of the SFL.
With no form of Financial Fair Play the new club were able to rack up debt greater than turnover to achieve promotion to the top flight after four seasons where they have continued to prosper by spending far more than they bring in thanks to mystery loans and debt for equity swaps.
