Paul McGrath and Graeme Souness are the latest names to suggest that Roy Keane is the ideal candidate to become the next Celtic manager.
Neither man is likely to be in Dermot Desmond’s inner circle or have the low-down on how Celtic are proceeding with the search for a new manager but their thoughts have helped fund the rumour mill that Keane could swap Sky Sports for Lennoxtown.
It is a month since Neil Lennon’s resignation was announced with nothing official coming out of Celtic over the process of finding a replacement.
Peter Lawwell is likely to be side-lined in the process, Dom McKay is on the pay-roll of the SRU while chairman Ian Bankier is unlikely to be involved in a major decision after a decade arranging prawn sandwiches.

Keane has been fed into the conversation a couple of times by Alan Nixon of The Sun but after a decade out of management it would be a monumental risk to put him back in the frontline. Even more so in such a high profile job as managing Celtic.
The former Manchester United man is an unmissable pundit on a Sunday afternoon but the reasons that make him compulsive viewing are red flags over his suitability for day-to-day management.
Should Roy Keane be the next Celtic manager
Yes, exactly what we need
No, never. We need to get serious
His Sky Sports role might be an elaborate act to keep him centre stage but as Celtic fans wait to invest in a new era at the club there seems little appetite, excitement and enthusiasm for someone who is viewed as very much an old school manager.
