Celtic have finally confirmed the departure of Andrew Gutman- two days after his signing was announced by Atalanta United. Typical of this complex issue he has instantly been sent out on loan to RB New York.
Gutman was a very low key signing in January 2019, it was given a website announcement which is more than can be said for his departure which only warranted a tweet.
Out of contract after playing in US College Soccer the full-back trained at Murray Park then switched to Lennoxtown where he played as a trialist in friendlies against St Mirren and Arbroath in January 2019.
What happened next is anyone’s guess but Celtic then signed a player that they were unable to get a Work Permit for. Gutman returned to the USA to play for Charlotte Independence who were in the US League Championship (second tier) with former Celtic coach Jim McGuinness in charge.
Gutman joined up with Celtic in June 2019 for pre-season matches in Austria and Switzerland but unable to play in Scotland he was loaned out to Cincinnati where he remained for the 2020 season.
Andrew Gutman has completed his permanent transfer to #ATLUTD.

Surely we know which players need permits by now?

Really quite bizarre the whole transfer. A shame too, living in the US. I’ve seen him play a few times and he was always a stand out player at LB. Could have done a job for us especially this season!

Absolutely pointless ..

Right, on a serious note. What is the point in these signings? I said at the time him and Perez will never play for Celtic, we all knew that. What is the idea behind these type of signing?
