Celtic’s decision to take their Player of the Year vote onto Twitter has backfired spectacularly!
The club’s Social Media team have had a tough time of it this season and looked like keeping the PotY award very low key
In normal years the Player of the Year awards are a good debating point for fans with a variety of candidates. In 2020 Odsonne Edouard picked up the main award.
Apart from the delayed Scottish Cup win over Hearts in December the 2020/21 season will be one that all Celtic fans wish to forget.
From Boli Bolingoli’s trip to Spain followed by the Champions League exit to Ferencvaros the season quickly went downhill with successive 4-1 defeats from Sparta Prague and a 2-0 Betfred Cup defeat from Ross County among many low points.
Seven players have been nominated for the main award with David Turnbull the one summer signing to be include. Of the four players brought in on loan only Moi Elyounoussi has made the short-list.
Among the players it is unlikely that there is much of an appetite for the awards with most looking to get over a torrid campaign without too many reminders to a campaign that no one anticipated.
According to Twitter Supporters Liaison Officer John Paul Taylor would be a strong contender.

Peter Lawwell is the standout candidate this year, played us all like a fiddle #addedvalue

Err… you’ve got to be kidding. Our season is over, our interest in anything other than, next seasons coherent plan & a dynamic recovery, is non-existent.
