Davie Provan has called out Celtic’s long running management saga as farcical.
It is more than two months since Neil Lennon resigned with no visible sign of a replacement or any sense of urgency ahead of a mammoth summer rebuild.
There are less than three months to go until next season’s Champions League qualifiers with pre-season training starting in mid-June.
Dom McKay moved in last week to shadow Peter Lawwell but the former SRU Communications Manager seems to have signed up to the vow of silence preferred by the club’s hierarchy unless they have something to sell to the #celticfamily.
From November onwards it was only a matter of time before Lennon’s tenure came to an end, rather than take their own decisive action the board left it to the Irishman to quit on the back of his second defeat of the season from Ross County.
Writing in The Sun, Provan summarised where Celtic are standing:
ALMOST sixty days have now passed since Neil Lennon left Celtic. Two months and still no sign of a replacement.
Even by the standards of this dysfunctional Hoops board, it’s becoming farcical. Maybe they’re trying to talk Ronny Deila into a comeback.
Not sure this is a time for humour when there’s so much on the line next season. What is so difficult about finding a proper football coach? They’ve had months to find the right man.
Provan added:
McKay has to front up with supporters pronto. Not least because they deserve a heads up on the next manager. The communications blackout of recent months is not going to shift season tickets.
If Eddie Howe is a done deal, McKay has to get him to Glasgow yesterday. You can’t manage Celtic remotely from England’s south coast.
If the former Bournemouth boss is the man, he should be here getting a feel for the club and the city. He needs to ??eyeball the players. Celtic can’t afford to repeat the mistakes of last summer when they held some who didn’t want to be there.
