Ross Doohan has been thrown an unlikely Scottish Cup lifeline by joining Dundee United on an emergency loan.

An injury to Benji Siegrist in the warm-up against Forfar last Friday left United in a spot of bother with Deniz Mehmet the only other fit keeper at Tannadice.

The 28-year-old has only played three SPFL matches this season with United losing 5-1 to St Mirren and 3-1 against Kilmarnock in his last two appearances.

Mehmet will be in goals for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against Aberdeen with Doohan on the bench.

At the start of this season the Scotland u-21 keeper was sent on loan to Ross County. After making five appearances he returned to Celtic in January when Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain were forced to self-isolate.

Doohan spent the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons on loan at Ayr United where he was first choice in The Championship.

In midweek Conor Hazard was called up onto the bench for Celtic’s 1-1 draw at Aberdeen after Barkas was injured in training.
