John Kennedy has been tipped to become Celtic’s Sporting Director.

The Interim Manager has worked his way up through the club from u-19 co-manager with Stevie Frail through to assistant manager to Neil Lennon.

Since the end of February Kennedy has been left in charge of the first team as the Celtic hierarchy look for a successor with an opening as Sporting Director coming on the back of Peter Lawwell stepping down.

The Sun reports:

JOHN KENNEDY is in the frame to become Celtic’s sporting director. SunSport understands the Hoops want interim boss JK to work closely with top target Eddie Howe who remains on course to become Neil Lennon’s permanent successor this summer.

Who is making that decision is unclear with Dom McKay shadowing Lawwell before taking over as CEO on July 1.

Fergal Harkin of Manchester City and Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes have been linked with the key role but it seems that they may have an in-house rival.

Kennedy has an in-depth knowledge of every area of the club but while continuity is generally welcome many fans are looking for a whole new approach and executive team running the show.

Since taking over on an Interim basis the 37-year-old has been dealing with the media before and after matches, fielding a variety of attempts to draw out detail on what direction the club is moving in.
