Celtic fans haven’t taken kindly to news that the club’s interest in Eddie Howe has come to a sudden halt.

After overseeing the worst season this century it looked like Peter Lawwell might have been able to salvage something of his tarnished legacy by overseeing the appointment of a bright young manager in the mould of Brendan Rodgers.

At the start of April it was reported that Howe had held talks with Dermot Desmond and Dom McKay with the assumption being that an appointment was only a matter of timing.

Informed sources claimed that the club was relaxed about things but when Bournemouth’s interest in promotion wasn’t followed by an announcement of Celtic’s new manager concerns were raised.

Now it seems that Howe was unable to get his backroom staff together which would surely have been known about some time ago.

Three months after Lennon resigned Celtic have no manager, two months until Champions League qualifiers the club has no manager.

Pre-season fixtures have been arranged, Season Ticket renewals are out but the only good news is that Lawwell’s interest should be over on June 30. His retention to show McKay the ropes appears badly judged unless the intention was to illustrate how not to appoint a new manager.

This week Ross County, Alloa and Dunfermline have all appointed new managers.
