Charlie Mulgrew has recalled how Tommy Burns suggested that he should have a night out BEFORE matches!

As he started his career at Celtic the young Mulgrew was eager to impress alongside his team-mates with Burns very much hands-on in his role as Head of Youth Development.

The former hoops boss knew his stuff for the coaching ground but mixed it with a realistic approach that brought out the best in the young hopefuls that he was trying to guide into the first team squad.

Picking up on his interview on Radio Scotland, The Sun reports Mulgrew saying:

I remember one time at Barrowfield, that was one of his famous ones, we were having a bit of a nightmare. He said: ‘Charlie, were you out last night?’ I said no. He says, ‘you start going out on Fridays from now on!'”

Mulgrew had to take the tourist route to the Celtic side via Dundee United, Wolves and Aberdeen before signing for Neil Lennon in 2010.

Over the next six years he won five SPL/SPFL titles under Lennon and Ronny Deila before quitting for Blackburn followed by spells at Wigan and Fleetwood.

Recently the 35-year-old moved back to Scotland, as a free agent he’s likely to be in demand this summer.
