Ryan Christie is a transfer target for Nice and Monaco.

The midfielder’s Celtic contract expires at the end of January giving Christie a massive say on what direction his career takes on next.

After being signed by Ronny Deila in August 2015 it looked like Christie wouldn’t be making the breakthrough as he toiled for game time after three stints out on loan.

In October 2018 his Celtic career was transformed after a substitute appearance away to Hearts in a Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts at Murrayfield.

Soon afterwards a new contract was signed but with the clock ticking down on that deal it seems inevitable that Christie will be moving elsewhere.

The Sunday Post reports:

The Hoops have appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager but Christie – a signing target for both Nice and Monaco – fancies a fresh challenge.

And with his current deal up in January, the Scotland forward will be allowed to go if it means the difference between his club receiving a seven-figure sum now, or nothing in seven months’ time.

Neil Lennon, Postecoglou’s predecessor at Celtic Park, drew attention to the reality of the situation last week, suggesting that given his contract situation, Christie would want to put himself in the shop window at the Euros.

Christie started Scotland’s European Championship opener against the Czech Republic but was replaced at half-time by Che Adams and didn’t feature at any stage in the 0-0 draw with England.

David Turnbull appears to be a ready-made replacement for Christie but with Scott Brown joining Aberdeen and Olivier Ntcham likely to move elsewhere Celtic are getting thin on midfield options.
