BBC Scotland have quickly backtracked from misquoting Ange Postecoglou at his first ever media conference.

The new Celtic boss spoke to the media for the first time with the club broadcasting it live through You Tube.

Despite that little warning someone inside BBC Scotland decided on some mischief making. When the Australian mentioned an urgency over transfer activity in certain positions the state broadcaster translated that into an emergency!

The revised, edited BBC Scotland report read:

New Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou admits there is an “urgency” over “a couple of positions” ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.

The 55-year-old Greek-Australian took charge of his first training session on Thursday with his side due to host Denmark’s Midtjylland on 20 July. Postecoglou hopes “to make some announcements very soon” in terms of new signings.

While other news outlets have to drive traffic and advertising revenue, BBC Scotland is freed from that pressure. They can report the news without hype and spin but on this occasion someone took a massive leap from urgency to emergency before alarm bells went off with the decision reversed.

Postecoglou and Dom McKay came over well during the media conference, giving off an air of confidence and assurance in difficult circumstances.

Celtic have just over three weeks to get a team and squad together for the Champions League tie against Midtjylland. The new manager and CEO will know already how their comments are interpreted by the state broadcaster.
