With a week left on the Celtic contract that he signed in 2017, Leigh Griffiths is confident that he is about to get a new deal from the club.

Ange Postecolgou arrived in Glasgow this morning with a massive rebuilding task ahead of him with less than a month to go until Celtic’s first match of the new season.

Every area of the squad is in need of strengthening with striking options in short supply.

Odsonne Edouard seems certain to move on after four seasons at Celtic, Vakoun Bayo is wanted by Toulouse while Albian Ajeti failed to live up to his £5m price tag last season.

With well over 100 goals since his January 2014 transfer from Wolves Griffiths has the pedigree but that is almost all in the past with the 30-year-old failing to complete a full match during the 2020/21 season.

There are a number of factors and variables at play but picking up on his appearance on Radio Scotland this morning, the Daily Record reports Griffiths saying:

I’m out of contract at the end of the month, but I spoke to the manager last week and he’s keen to keep me on. We’re looking for a deal that can be done and hopefully it can done in the next few days.

Should Postecoglou offer Leigh Griffiths another contract?

Yes, no brainer, best striker in Scotland

No way, he's had too many chances

Griffiths still enjoys a lot of goodwill from the Celtic support but when he was most needed he came back from Lockdown badly out of shape, admitting that he was a disgrace.

It would be wrong to put all the blame on the Scotland striker but like Boli Bolingoli’s trip to Spain last August the tone was set on a disastrous season that saw the club lose all three domestic trophies with barely any sign of a fight put up in defence.
