Vakoun Bayo has walked out on the chance to play at the Olympic Games in order to complete a transfer to Belgium.

The striker has a year left on his Celtic contract but it is unlikely that anything more than a token fee will be paid to take Bayo off the hoops wage bill.

Bayo was brought to Celtic by Peter Lawwell in the disastrous January 2019 transfer window that also saw Marian Shved, Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez ‘recruited’. Bayo is the only one of that quartet to have started a match, by the end of February Brendan Rodgers had left to join Leicester City.

The Ivorian spent last season on loan at Toulouse but despite their continuing interest it looks like he’ll be playing across the border when the new season gets underway.

The Daily Record reports:

Misfit Vakoun Bayo has walked out of the Ivory Coast Olympic football squad to enter into talks to clinch a move away from Celtic to Belgium. And he’s left his country one player short for their quest at Olympic glory in Japan.

Celtic paid a fee reported to be in the region of £2m when they signed Bayo from Slovakian side Dunajska Streda.

Already this year Celtic have sold Hatem Abd Elhamed, Jeremie Frimpong, Patryk Klimala and Jack Hendry.
