Ange Postecoglou claims that Celtic have contingency plans for the transfer of Odsonne Edouard.

The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract but remains Celtic’s first choice striker with Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths the only competition.

That could change when Kyogo Furuhashi arrives at the club but against Midtjylland on Wednesday it will be Edouard that carries the main goal threat to take Celtic through.

Celtic waited until Kris Ajer was sold before announcing the signing of Carl Starfelt with a similar scenario likely if Edouard is to leave.

Picking up on an interview with Sky Sports, Glasgow Live reports Postecoglou saying:

I’ve had a chat to Odsonne and for me what’s more important is Odsonne is training well and presenting himself in games well so while he’s here I’m treating him as a Celtic player.

If that changes in the near future we’re making contingency plans for him but I’m not going to waste too much time trying to convince people to stay or worrying about what’s going to happen. There’s too much to do on what I need to influence right now.

A year ago Ajeti appeared to be a possible replacement for Edouard but during lockdown the transfer market was stifled with no bids coming in for the striker.

Edouard still finished the season as Celtic’s top scorer but like most of his team-mates he was a shadow of the player that he had been the previous season as he pushed the hoops to 9-in-a-row for the second time.
