Mat Ryan’s proposed move to Real Sociedad isn’t quite the done deal that it was painted out to be at the weekend.

The Brighton keeper is well known to Ange Postecoglou from their days together with the Australian national side with Ryan’s career at a crossroads.

After losing his place at Brighton last season he went on loan to Arsenal but after just three top team appearances his future remains unknown.

Celtic went through something of a goalkeeping crisis last season after failing to secure Fraser Forster but have three international goalkeepers available to Postecoglou.

The prospect of Ryan and Postecoglou together at Celtic interests the Australian media with the Daily Record picking up on an interview that the goalkeeper gave to Fox Australia:

He was asked if he was more in the mood for Haggis or Paella – with the follow up question asked him if he was keen on the Hoops or Sociedad.

Ryan laughed: “Haggis every day of the week! Nah, at the minute I’m on the fence. I’m not sure what I fancy, what my tastebuds are craving just now. I’ll have to wait and see. At the minute, just nothing. I’m just waiting and seeing. Until, I guess, I get a bit of a craving to find out.”

Vasilis Barkas and Scot Bain shared goalkeeping duties for yesterday’s win against Sheffield Wednesday, Celtic are back in action on Saturday with a friendly against Charlton Athletic.
