Carl Starfelt is a work visa away from becoming a Celtic player after passing his medical.

Over the weekend the transfer of the defender seems to have advanced but there is still no social media announcement from Celtic.

Last week deals for Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi were announced but the arrival of a central defender is the deal that fans are anxiously waiting on.

A fee of around £4.5m seems to have been agreed between the clubs but the arrival date is unknown with Starfelt highly unlikely to be involved in Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.

The Daily Record reports:

Celtic have agreed a £4.5 million deal for Swedish international Carl Starfelt – but are now waiting to see when they can get him into the country.

A deal has been thrashed out with Rubin Kazan for the defender – who is seen as a direct replacement for Brentford-bound Kristoffer Ajer. Starfelt agreed a long-term deal with Celtic and passed his medical in Moscow last week.

The 26-year-old is now waiting for his work visa and to see when he can travel to the United Kingdom, due to the current pandemic restrictions.

Boss Ange Postecoglou admitted at the weekend that red tape to get deals done has been a major source of frustration with Celtic due to kick off their Champions League campaign against Midtjylland tomorrow night.

Nir Bitton missed Saturday’s defeat from Preston North End due to injury but could be in contention to face Midtjylland.

Stephen Welsh and Osaze Urhoghide started in central defence against Preston with Dane Murray and Leo Hjelde finishing the match.

Two new signings can be registered with UEFA by 11pm tonight.
