Celtic will need to put a £5m fee on the table to secure Cameron Carter-Vickers.

With a year left on his contract Spurs need to cash in while the defender is reported to be looking for a permanent move after stints out on loan at Luton and Bournemouth.

Newcastle and Norwich, who both missed out on Kris Ajer, are being linked with Carter-Vickers who won’t be part of the plans at Spurs for the season ahead.

The Daily Record reports:

Celtic have been told they’ll need to stump up for Cameron Carter-Vickers because the US star wants to leave Tottenham for good.

The Hoops remain in talks with Spurs over the 23-year-old but any hope of a loan move is a non-starter with the centre-back eager to secure a permanent move out of the North London club.

Spurs’ £5million asking price for the eight-times capped USA stopper, who is in the final 12 months of his contract, could prove a stumbling block with Belgians Anderlecht and Brugge also linked.

Celtic were keen on exploring a loan option. But Carter-Vickers is determined to seal a Spurs exit having been on their books for 12 years.

Carl Starfelt was added to the Celtic defence last week but with no sign of a return date for Chris Jullien it remains an area that Celtic are short of options.

Nir Bitton proved again on Saturday that he isn’t capable of playing in that position with Ange Postecoglou opting to drop Stephen Welsh and Dane Murray following their performance against Midtjylland.

It looks unlikely that Celtic will have any new signings registered in time for Thursday’s Europa League qualifier against Jablonec.
