Guy Mowbray offered a tweet of thanks to Celtic after providing commentary on the 2-0 Europa League win over AZ Alkmaar.

It was a feeling replicated by the fans that managed to beat streaming issues to watch Ange Postecoglou’s side take a big step towards the group stage of the Europa League.

Mowbray brought Champions League qualities to his commentary, calling on years of experience with the BBC and BT Sport to perfectly describe the match, the performance of both sides and the impact of a near full-house on both sets of players. It was quite a contrast to the usual cringe-worthy commentary from the usual in-house team.

Gerry McCulloch wisely took the decision to step away from the microphone, settling for a presenter’s role as a professional raised the standard across the much criticised Celtic TV.

The UEFA qualifiers gave Celtic the chance to do their own thing in terms of broadcasting with the match available to oversees subscribers to Celtic TV with the club making Pay Per View available at £9.95.

Celtic will be in either the Europa League or the Conference until Christmas with BT Sport taking over as part of their exclusive deal with UEFA which also includes the Champions League.
