Ange Postecoglou is about to discover what depth there is in the Celtic squad.

During a summer of massive change 12 players were signed under the watch of the new manager but seven will be missing against Real Betis for a variety of reasons.

Callum McGregor, Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada, Georgios Giakoumaukis, James Forrest, Nir Bitton and  Greg Taylor will be watching from afar with only Abada and Bitton in contention for Sunday’s match at Livingston.

As well as the massive turnover of players Postecoglou has been trying to get his ideas across on the training ground in between a hectic schedule of matches with three international fixtures in a week thrown in for much of his squad.

Betis will present Celtic with their toughest test of the season with Postecoglou telling the Daily Record about the challenges he faces with so many players missing:

Callum is a very influential player for us but we are going through a period just now where we are going through some significant outs.

It has been the state of play since I got here. We have been in a constant state of flux and haven’t been able to settle.

That is an opportunity to build our resilience through this period and to just keep doing what we have been doing and playing our football.

If we can get through this period without shifting the team we want to be then it is going to make us even stronger once we get everyone back.

After three substitute appearances tonight could be the time for James McCarthy to start his first Celtic match with Adam Montgomery also a strong contender to get a place in the starting XI.
