Huddersfield Town are waiting on Juninho Bacuna being sold before they will receive any money for the midfielder.

The midfielder joined the Yorkshire side in the summer of 2018 ahead of their relegation from the EPL. After two seasons in The Championship Huddersfield were anxious to move on their big earners with Bacuna on one of the legacy contracts from their time in the top division.

With no money to spend during the summer Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson enticed Huddersfield into a deal with the carrot of a ‘significant sell-on’. HJK Helsinki have been waiting eight transfer windows for their slice of a transfer fee for Aldredo Morelos.

During a Q and A with Huddersfield fans for Yorkshire Live, chairman Phil Hodgkinson explained the Bacuna deal:

We had interest from two or three clubs in the [January] window. They had to sell players before they could do anything, and ultimately they did but very last minute, and we didn’t want to wait until the last day because we’ve fallen foul of that – Steven will tell you – more than once since I took over the club and it’s not a nice place to be for me, just like it’s not for the supporters.

Rangers were interested in him back in January and they came back in, and we ultimately did a deal where we didn’t get a transfer fee up front but we’ve actually done a really good deal where it’s appearance-based, European-based, with a big sell-on, so we’ve got a significant sell-on, where we will ultimately from that deal at least get our money back.

Transfer guru Wilson was again unable to sell any Ibrox stars during the summer window. Covidiot fall guys Jordan Jones and George Edmundson joined League One clubs for undisclosed fees.

Dundee are waiting on their sell-on clause for Glen Kamara, Wigan for their slice of the James Tavernier windfall and Liverpool for their 40% cut on Ryan Kent’s move to the EPL.

The £1.8m fee that Wigan paid for Joshua Windass in 2018 is the highest fee that the club founded by Charles Green in 2012 has ever picked up.
